At Bimform, we have no doubt about the severity of the ongoing climate crisis, and the urgence of finding efficient solutions to battle it. Globally, the construction industry accounts for almost 40% of the carbon footprint of the entire mankind, so we feel it’s our unambiguous responsibility to do whatever we can to radically decrease the emissions.

Building information modelling offers numerous ways to reduce the environmental load induced by construction projects. Creating a precise digital twin of the upcoming building makes it possible to accurately simulate its environmental performance and thus direct the plans towards a more sustainable outcome. One of the most characteristic ways to benefit from BIM is interdisciplinary conflict detection, which reduces the need to tear down and rebuild in the construction phase, therefore decreasing the waste of energy and materials. BIM also allows project managers to carefully plan and schedule site operations, which enables more efficient logistics, as well as planned and appropriate waste management and recycling.

We distribute the data into the attributes of our BIM objects in a comprehensive manner to facilitate comparisons between products. We also make sure that the metrics are formatted correctly to take full advantage of the energy efficiency simulations available in BIM software applications. We can also advise manufacturers in figuring out the correct attributes if they don’t have the information available already.
In the Bimroom object library the user can find and filter the products by their environmental performance. This makes it fast and convenient to make sustainable decisions regarding the products to specify for projects. We present all relevant data regarding the products’ environmental performance in the library in a comprehensive format. We work hard to collaborate with the most environmentally advanced manufacturers in the industry to make models of their products available at bimroom.com, and encourage other manufacturers to improve theirs to create a virtuous circle of enhanced sustainability.
For the future, we’re envisioning an integrated sustainability toolbox as part of the bimform product palette. It would enable designers to measure the environmental performance of their plans more precisely than what is currently possible, and to effortlessly optimize their designs and product choices accordingly. We think that it’s everyone’s duty to battle climate change and that small streams make big rivers.
